Alex Bag – Video – 1995

In Untitled (Fall 95) Bag appears in the persona of an art student who goes through a variety of transformations, delivering often hilarious monologues accompanying the various phases her assumed identities pass through. Bag’s works use low-tech, vox-pop style video and an array of self-mutations to redirect television’s ubiquitous presence, turning it into a tool that can be ‘curated’ by individuals for their own needs and pleasures rather than those of the broadcasting corporations. Blending street awareness with social experimentation. Bag creates a chameleon presence, mixing and matching, slipping and sliding between TV culture and personal agendas.
